Perlane® is composed of larger gel particles than Restylane® and is intended for deeper injection to add volume and structural support.
Restylane® and Perlane® are made of hyaluronic acid. In the human body, natural hyaluronic acid provides volume and fullness to the skin. The hydrophilic or "water loving" nature of the hyaluronic acid molecules in Restylane® and Perlane® and their three dimensional structure allows them to bind many times their own weight in water. As hyaluronic acid begins to degrade, each molecule binds to more water which helps maintain its volume for about six months.
Restylane® and Perlane® contain no animal proteins. This limits any risk of animal-based disease transmissions or development of allergic reactions. No allergy testing is required before use.
Restylane® and Perlane® are proven to deliver long lasting results. Studies have shown that Restylane® lasts up to six months; and Perlane® lasts six to nine months. The FDA has just recently announced that Restylane can achieve lasting results up to 18 months if used on a regular basis for 2 or more procedures.
